Adiantum capillus – veneris is popularly known as “avenca”, “maidenhair fern”, and “adianto” and is a native of the Amazon Forest and also temperate zones of Europe and the USA. This herb has amazing medicinal properties, which has had included in medicinal systems across the globe for thousands of years.

Among its main properties are stimulant, pectoral, laxative, expectorant, emollient, astringent, antibacterial, and antitussive. It is used mostly for treating upper respiratory ailments, diabetes, digestion, irregular menstruation, and improving renal function.

Adiantum is also used for gallstones. It is a mild diuretic and has detoxification properties hence, used as a blood purifier and liver and kidney detoxifier.

It is well known as a treatment for bronchitis, asthma, and cough. Adiantum is also used as a detoxificant for alcoholism and deworming. It provides relief against insect and snake bites.  It is known to help with labor, dysmenorrhea, and irregular menstrual cycles.

The herb when massaged into the scalp stimulates hair growth and eliminates dandruff.

This herbal remedy should only be consumed for a short period of time.
🡆It is also not recommended for pregnant women, women who desire to get pregnant, and those having diabetes problems.
🡆If taken in excess, causes severe nausea and vomiting.

Recommended Dosage
◉ 1-3 teaspoons of loose tea (or 3g up to 3 times) daily. If more than one herbal mixture is consumed at the same period of time, reduce the amount of tea accordingly.
◉ When herbs are used for an extended period of time, it is suggested to consume a herbal remedy with a ratio of 3 to 1. For example:
- If you choose to take it for 3 weeks, have a one-week pause.
- If it is taken for a 30-day period, have a 10-day pause.
That does not apply to herbs and fruits that have a laxative effect.

Herbal Tea Brewing Instructions

  1. Heat the water to just the point when it starts to boil.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of loose tea, to a tea infuser or tea bag, for every 180ml - 240ml of water.
  3. Pour the heated water (right off the boil) over the tea, cover your cup, and steep for 7-10 minutes or longer.
  4. Add honey or stevia for sweetness, if desired.
