The Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) also known as “tulasi” is the native herb of Asia. It has been grown and worshipped as a holy plant in India for more than 3,000 years and found a mention for its extraordinary medicinal properties in the Charaka Samitha, the Ayurveda – an ancient Indian herbal medicinal system.
In-depth research studies such as the one published in the “Pharmacognosy Review” reveal that this plant has powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties. Alternative medicine systems use the herb to help wounds heal faster, as a disinfectant and antiseptic, and for reducing inflammation and pain.
The Holy Basil is also known to be very potent in reducing stress and reversing stress-related conditions such high cholesterol levels, stomach ulcer, acidity, memory loss, mood swings and supressed immune system.
It is also used for preventing and managing diabetes. A few recent research studies suggest that the Tulasi has the ability to improve brain function resulting in boosting memory power and even preventing dementia.
While the plant is not known to cause any harmful side effects, it is contraindicated during pregnancy as it may cause miscarriage by stimulating uterine contractions.
The Queen of Herbs" - is the most sacred herb of India. Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), although also known as Holy Basil, is a different plant from the pesto variety of Basil (Ocimum basilicum). Tulsi has been revered in India for over five thousand years, as a healing balm for body, mind and spirit, and is known to bestow an amazing number of health benefits.
“Botano” is pleased to offer Organic Tulsi, as a stress-relieving, energizing and delicious tea.
For our Tulsi Tea Collection, we utilize a proprietary combination of 4 varieties of Tulsi: Rama Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Krishna Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Kapoor tulsi (Ocimum Tenuiflorum) and Vana Tulsi (Ocimum gratissimum). Each variety lends its own distinct and characteristic taste that contributes to the delicious flavor and aroma of our blend.
Tulsi’s extracts are used in ayurvedic remedies for common colds, headaches, stomach disorders, inflammation, heart disease, various forms of poisoning, and malaria. Traditionally, tulsi is taken in many forms: as herbal tea, dried powder, fresh leaf, or mixed with ghee. For centuries, the dried leaves of Tulsi have been mixed with stored grains to repel insects.
"Modern scientific research offers impressive evidence that Tulsi reduces stress, enhances stamina, relieves inflammation, lowers cholesterol, eliminates toxins, protects against radiation, prevents gastric ulcers, lowers fevers, improves digestion and provides a rich supply of antioxidants and other nutrients. Tulsi is especially effective in supporting the heart, blood vessels, liver and lungs and also regulates blood pressure and blood sugar."
