The Arctium lappa root, also known as “burdock”, “love leaves”, “beggar’s buttons”, and “thorny burr” among others, is a native of Mediterranean region, i.e. you will find it grow naturally is India, Japan, China, Middle East, Russia, British Isles among others.

The root part has strong alterative, diaphoretic, diuretic and properties, which makes it one of the best known blood purifiers. It is used in the treatment of a number of skin conditions including eczema and scaly skin disorders.

The leaves are used too, normally for treating indigestion, kidney problems and nervous system conditions. Owing to its anti-scorbutic traits it is also used for scurvy, rheumatism and boils.

Arctium lappa root has got exceptional demulcent and mucilaginous properties it is used for treating stomach ulcers. Applied as a paste externally it is excellent for bruises, burns and inflamed parts of the body as it fights infection and pain effectively.

It increases the flow of urine and sweating and with it the expelling of toxins from the body. In some parts it is used for treating cancer, infertility in women and impotence in men.
