This spice, named after the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, is currently mostly supplied from Turkey due to the difficulties of cultivating and exporting from the war-torn Syrian region. It is derived from the Halaby pepper, a burgundy chili.

When the naturally oily pepper is ready, it is de-seeded, sun-dried, and finely crushed into flakes. It is then blended with salt and olive oil to create a brilliant red, earthy, moderately fiery spice that may be used as a condiment or garnish in place of red chile flakes.

It features a slight sweetness and tanginess, as well as raisin, citrus, and tomato flavors with a cumin-like earthiness and roasted flavor.

Use
Pairs well with cheese, vegetables, beans, soup, pasta, pizza, avocado toast, kebab, chicken, braised meats, muhammara dip, and desserts with chocolate, vanilla beans, or gingerbread spices.
Fantastic as a substitute for Crushed Red Pepper or Red Chili Flakes.

Notes
◉ Salts should be stored in airtight glass containers -in a cool, dark, and dry area- to preserve their flavor and properties.
