Ceylon Cinnamon Powder (Cinnamomum Verum)
Also known as "the true cinnamon" (Cinnamomum Zerylandicum), it has a warm, sweet taste and pungent aroma, commonly used to flavor foods and beverages.
Cinnamon is used for a variety of purported health benefits in alternative medicine. These include treatment for colds, digestive problems, and painful menstrual periods. In traditional medicine, it has been used for bronchitis.
Use
On the Indian subcontinent, it's used to flavor curry, while in the Middle East, it's used to flavor savory chicken and lamb meals, and in Mexico, it's used to flavor chocolate and yams. It's common in baked products like cinnamon rolls and cookies, as well as substantial pies, crumbles, and cobblers made with apples and pears in the West.
