Borage is a common weed native to the Mediterranean region and is thought to originate from southern Spain and Morocco and is a member of the comfrey family (Boraginaceae). Other names for Borage are Starflower, Bee Bush, Bee Bread, and Bugloss.

In traditional medicine, the Borago officinalis is used for treating kidney and bladder disorders, urinary tract problems, cardiovascular conditions, asthma, bronchitis, and gastrointestinal conditions.

Borage also has an affinity towards adrenals, respiratory system, nervous system, digestive system, musculoskeletal system, and female reproductive system; it can alleviate menopause and PMS symptoms by regulating hormone production.

It’s especially rich in gamma linoleic acid (GLA), which is an omega-6 fatty acid that has been shown to decrease inflammation, and when applied to inflamed areas it brings relief from pain and reduces swelling.

Since the herb has the ability to improve blood circulation to the heart, it needs to be taken with caution and in moderate amounts.

The Borago officinalis is also used for treating inflammation of the eyes.

Recommended Dosage
◉ 1-3 teaspoons of loose tea (or 3g up to 3 times) daily. If more than one herbal mixture is consumed at the same period of time, reduce the amount of tea accordingly.
◉ When herbs are used for an extended period of time, it is suggested to consume a herbal remedy with a ratio of 3 to 1. For example:
- If you choose to take it for 3 weeks, have a one-week pause.
- If it is taken for a 30-day period, have a 10-day pause.
That does not apply to herbs and fruits that have a laxative effect.

Notes
◉ Should be stored in airtight glass containers -in a cool, dark, and dry place- to preserve the flavor, texture, and properties.
◉ Before adding a new herbal remedy or supplement to your daily routine, you should consult with a medical doctor or holistic health practitioner.
