Pilewort (Ficaria verna, originally Ranunculus ficaria) is native to Europe and Western Asia, a blooming herb of the buttercup family that is also known as little celandine, English figwort, smallwort, and fig buttercup. Pilewort got its name from the fact that it has long been thought to be a treatment for piles (hemorrhoids).

Because of its astringency, it has been used for thousands of years in the treatment of piles, hemorrhoids, ulcers, throat, and mouth. Lesser Celandine has also been used to treat scurvy, due to its high vitamin C concentration.

It possesses calming, antibacterial, antispasmodic, and analgesic qualities, which aid in narrowing blood vessels and minimizing bleeding, as well as relieving itching and swelling.

An infusion can be administered internally or applied topically as an ointment. It is also used to treat perineal injuries after childbirth.
For the internal infusion, use 2 tablespoons in a half-liter of heated water and leave it alone for a few minutes to infuse before drinking as tea.
In terms of topical application as an ointment or herbal wash, it is prepared from the bruised and dried herb and, traditionally, fresh lard, however, petroleum jelly is now used as a perfectly acceptable replacement for the lard. Then it is administered locally at night and in the morning, as poultices, fomentations, or suppositories, all of which are simple to make.

CAUTION
🡆It might irritate delicate skin.

Recommended Dosage
◉ 1-3 teaspoons of loose tea (or 3g up to 3 times) daily. If more than one herbal mixture is consumed at the same period of time, reduce the amount of tea accordingly.
◉ When herbs are used for an extended period of time, it is suggested to consume a herbal remedy with a ratio of 3 to 1. For example:
- If you choose to take it for 3 weeks, have a one-week pause.
- If it is taken for a 30-day period, have a 10-day pause.
That does not apply to herbs and fruits that have a laxative effect.

Notes
◉ Should be stored in airtight glass containers -in a cool, dark, and dry place- to preserve the flavor, texture, and properties.
◉ Before adding a new herbal remedy or supplement to your daily routine, you should consult with a medical doctor or holistic health practitioner.
