Hawthorn flowers and berries have been used since the 1st century for treating the heart and circulatory disorders. Its cardiovascular healing properties have been recognized by modern science and recommended for the treatment of heart failure, hardening of arteries, chest pain, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and even respiratory diseases.

It is extensively used as a tonic, pain-killer, and for checking all types of hemorrhages – both internal and external.  Taken in the form of tea, it can bring quick relief to all types of internal bleeding.

An astonishing property of Hawthorn flowers and berries is that they “sense” whether it needs to stimulate or calm the heart, which makes it so special as a heart tonic. It is also used extensively and effectively to staunch bleeding of the stomach, inward bleeding piles, and irritable bowels.

In ancient times the paste of the Hawthorn flowers and berries was used for treating a wide variety of skin problems. Its application to burst varicose veins often saved lives. It soothes irritation and decreases pain and swelling from insect bites, burns, scalds, and minor bruises. Applied to inflamed eyelids it can give almost instant relief and decrease swelling swiftly.

Hawthorn has been used for heart cardiac insufficiency, bradycardic rhythm disorders, and angina pectoris. Hawthorn increases the blood flow to the heart and restores normal heartbeat. Hawthorn is also used after a heart attack to help recovery. Hawthorn dilates blood and assists in reducing high blood pressure. Studies have shown that hawthorn increases the contraction strength and the stroke volume of the hearth. Hawthorn is only effective if taken for a period of a minimum of six weeks.

Recommended Dosage
◉ 1-3 teaspoons of loose tea (or 3g up to 3 times) daily. If more than one herbal mixture is consumed at the same period of time, reduce the amount of tea accordingly.
◉ When herbs are used for an extended period of time, it is suggested to consume a herbal remedy with a ratio of 3 to 1. For example:
- If you choose to take it for 3 weeks, have a one-week pause.
- If it is taken for a 30-day period, have a 10-day pause.
That does not apply to herbs and fruits that have a laxative effect.

Herbal Tea Brewing Instructions

  1. Heat the water to just the point when it starts to boil.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of loose tea, to a tea infuser or tea bag, for every 180ml - 240ml of water.
  3. Pour the heated water (right off the boil) over the tea, cover your cup, and steep for 7-10 minutes or longer.
  4. Add honey or stevia for sweetness, if desired.
