Hypericum perforatum, popularly known as St. John's wort, is a flowering plant of the genus Hypericum that is native to Europe but is widely found in the bare ground of roadsides, meadows, and woodlands in the United States and Canada. The plant was given its name because it blooms around John the Baptist's birthday, June 24, and "wort" is an ancient English term meaning plant.

For over 2,000 years, St. John's wort has been used as a medicinal herb for its antidepressant and anti-inflammatory properties, including treatment for illnesses such as various nervous or mood disorders, and it now has scientific proof of having fewer side effects than most other prescription antidepressants, such as loss of sex drive.

While St. John's wort is most generally used to treat depression, it can also assist with anxiety, fatigue, lack of appetite, and difficulties sleeping, as well as heart palpitations, moodiness, ADHD symptoms, obsessive-compulsive disorder, seasonal affective disorder, menopause, and smoking cessation.

Recommended Dosage
◉ 1-3 teaspoons of loose tea (or 3g up to 3 times) daily. If more than one herbal mixture is consumed at the same period of time, reduce the amount of tea accordingly.
◉ When herbs are used for an extended period of time, it is suggested to consume a herbal remedy with a ratio of 3 to 1. For example:
- If you choose to take it for 3 weeks, have a one-week pause.
- If it is taken for a 30-day period, have a 10-day pause.
That does not apply to herbs and fruits that have a laxative effect.

Notes
◉ Should be stored in airtight glass containers -in a cool, dark, and dry place- to preserve the flavor, texture, and properties.
◉ Before adding a new herbal remedy or supplement to your daily routine, you should consult with a medical doctor or holistic health practitioner.
